“How Is Mac Jones Not Taking Brock Purdy’s Job”: Fans Don’t Hold Back As 49ers QB Puts On MNF Disasterclass With Multiple Interceptions

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is struggling to throw accurately in the ongoing game against the Carolina Panthers at Levi’s Stadium on Monday. The former “Mr. Irrelevant” had thrown three interceptions in the first half, resulting in harsh reactions from fans, with some even asking the 49ers head coach to reinstate Mac Jones as the starting quarterback.

In the first half, where the 49ers are currently leading 7-3 with two minutes remaining to halftime, Purdy has completed 10 of 15 passes for 60 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He has rushed for 12 yards on two carries as well.

Following the three‐interception sequence, the Panthers cut the lead to 7-3 late in the half.

After seeing a flurry of interceptions all in one half, fans called out the 49ers QB1.

“Mac Jones 8 games played 6 interceptions Brock Purdy 4 games played 5 interceptions….” one fan noted.

“How is Mac Jones not taking Purdy’s job,” one fan asked.

“3 interceptions in the first half for Brock Purdy and people used to tell me this guy was a franchise QB,” another fan reacted.

“Niners fans: “Can we stop throwing interceptions?” Brock Purdy: (quoting Nick Saban’s old quote) I’m not going to so don’t ask,” one fan added.

“Brock Purdy has as many interceptions in the first half (3) as Jordan Love has all season (3),” one fan said.

“Buddy is about to call social security,” one fan added.

49ers HC Pretty Clear Between Brock Purdy And Mac Jones

When Brock Purdy was out with an injury, backup quarterback Mac Jones handled things perfectly in his absence. In eight games started, he led the team to a 5-3 record. He completed 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards, with 13 touchdowns against six interceptions.

However, despite leading the team well, the 49ers head coach continued with Purdy once he returned. While he acknowledged Jones’ performance, he said it was Purdy’s team.

“It’s not a hard decision,” Shanahan told reporters. “It’s just more about Brock’s health. It’s been awesome how Mac has played. He has been great. But, we’ve got a lot of confidence in Brock and we know Brock will play at a high level too as long as he’s healthy.”

That’s understandable since Purdy is the guy the 49ers are committed to long term. They signed the quarterback to a five-year, $265 million extension in the offseason. Purdy suffered a turf toe injury in Week 1. He missed the next two games, but the injury still bothered him when he returned in Week 4. This led him to miss eight games this season, but now he is back.
