Quarterback San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones is just the latest in a long list of injured players for the team this season. The team’s original starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, has struggled with injuries throughout the year, resulting in Jones getting more playing time than expected.
Purdy is still nursing a toe injury and, as a result, is not expected to play this week. So, Mac Jones is slated to get another start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, Jones is battling injuries himself. He is dealing with a left knee issue and an oblique injury. Despite that, he battled through the game last week to help the 49ers defeat the LA Rams.
As things stand, Jones is listed as questionable for the game on Sunday.
What Happened to Mac Jones?
Jones sprained his PCL during training camp and aggravated the issue in Week 3. Then in Week 5, he aggravated it again. However, he played through the injury while wearing a knee brace.

Is Mac Jones Playing Week 6?
Mac Jones was limited in practice on Wednesday, per the team’s injury report. He is now listed as questionable for the team’s Week 6 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If he remains out and Purdy is not able to return, the 49ers will need to turn to their third-string quarterback, Adrian Martinez, against the Bucs. He has not appeared in an NFL regular-season game.
Mac Jones Fantasy Outlook
Mac Jones has performed admirably for the 49ers. There are many who believe that this stretch of games has saved his career as a possible starter. However, he is not a player most fantasy football players should be starting. According to ESPN, he is not ranked within the top 25 fantasy quarterbacks this season. As a result, unless you are in a unique format that uses several QBs, Jones is likely not a viable option.
However, when Brock Purdy is able to return, he is viewed as a top option. He is the No. 10-ranked fantasy quarterback, according to ESPN.
