Las Vegas Raiders Coaching History: Who Coached The Team Before Pete Carroll?

The Las Vegas Raiders have fired another coach in Pete Carroll, and for a third year in a row, is looking for a brand new head coach. Carroll led the team to a 3-14 record, the worst record in the league for the 2025 season, thus leading to his firing. Since transferring to Las Vegas from Oakland in 2020, the team has gone through five coaches already, which means that for six years, the team has had five coaches.

This has led the team to earn a reputation about going through coaches one after another and firing them after just a season or two. The turnover rate at Las Vegas has been dismal, and it might turn off some coaching prospects from taking the job, given that it would not be offering much long-term job security since coaches do not last very long.

So, who were the four other coaches who have coached the Raiders during the Las Vegas era of the team, and how well have they fared compared to him? To note, Carroll ended his term as head coach with a 3-14 record, which is a winning percentage of .176.

Las Vegas Raiders Before Pete Carroll

    Jon Gruden (2018-2021)

Gruden was the coach of the Raiders back when they were still based in Oakland, California. He continued coaching the team when they moved to Las Vegas and resigned as coach in 2021 with a .513 winning percentage and a record of 60-57.

    Rich Bisaccia (2021)

This is when Vegas started losing a coach every single year, as Rich Bisaccia, who took over as interim head coach after Gruden was fired, had a 7-5 record and a .583 winning percentage. The organization would replace him soon enough.

    Josh McDaniels (2022-2023)

McDaniels also had a dismal season at 9-16, with him being infamous for having big leads but ultimately losing that game and not being able to close things out. He finished his first season with the Raiders with a 6-11 record and held onto his job before ultimately getting fired in the middle of the 2023 season.

    Antonio Pierce (2023-2024)

Antonio Pierce was the Raiders linebackers coach who ultimately got promoted to become interim head coach after Josh McDaniels got fired. He soon took over as the actual head coach in 2024, but after a 4-13 season, he was also fired.
