Losing a quarterback can be tough for an NFL team, and the Arizona Cardinals are feeling it right now as their QB1, Kyler Murray, was out with an injury last week. He did not play for the Cardinals against the Indianapolis Colts, with backup QB Jacoby Brisset starting for the team in his stead.
In addition to Brissett, the Cardinals also signed quarterback Kedon Slovis from the practice squad to fill in as the backup quarterback. With Murray out, the team’s quarterback room had been quite depleted, so the team had to look for answers.
What Happened to Kyler Murray?
Kyler Murray has been out for a week, missing the game against the Colts and then possibly missing the Week 7 showdown against the Green Bay Packers. He reportedly picked up a foot injury, a mid-foot sprain to be specific, during that loss to the Tennessee Titans on Week 5.
The extent of his injuries are still unclear, which means that the Cardinals are just waiting to see if their star quarterback will return in time for the Cardinals to host the Colts on Week 7.
If not, Brissett would have to step after he played very well in that loss to Indianapolis. throwing for 320 yards and completing 27 of 44 pass attempts. He scored two passing touchdowns but those efforts were not enough to prevent that 31-27 loss at Indianapolis.
Is Kyler Murray Playing This Week?
So, is Kyler Murray actually playing? The Cardinals have been coy about answering that question so far, with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon addressing the matter in a Monday press conference:
“When he’s out there and ready to play, he’ll play,” the coach told reporters.
Gannon gave no further comment on the Cardinals players who are currently injured. For the time being, it is possible that the team is just adopting a wait-and-see approach as they could either rest Murray up further so he could not get injured any further, or play him against one of the top teams in the league, the Packers.
Kyler Murray Fantasy Outlook
With it still being unclear whether Murray would be playing on Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers, fantasy managers should also just wait and see if the quarterback could be medically cleared to play.
He was listed as “questionable” last week, so it is possible that the team would also be implementing that same approach for Week 7.
