Kevin Stefanski Replacements: Top 5 Candidates For Cleveland Job Ft. Mike McDaniel

After another unsatisfactory 5-12 season, the Cleveland Browns have finally pulled the plug on head coach Kevin Stefanski after six seasons. The decision was made on Monday, and surprisingly, general manager Andrew Berry was not asked to pack his bags; rather, he has been tasked to find the new head coach.

In the wake of this development, several coaches like Mike McDaniels have emerged as the best possible option for Cleveland to consider.

Top 5 Candidates To Replace Kevin Stefanski For Cleveland Job

    1) Mike McDaniel

Mike McDaniel could be a top candidate for the job in Cleveland. While he’s still under contract with the Miami Dolphins, there are talks about Miami considering a change in leadership. With that in mind, McDaniel could look to switch and his prior experience as the Browns’ wide receivers coach (in 2014) might come into play. McDaniel has a creative scheme and player friendly approach, which should also help.

    2) Robert Saleh

There’s no doubt the Browns are weak in the quarterback room. They changed multiple quarterbacks throughout the season, and none of them looked convincing. However, the same couldn’t be said for their defense.

If the Browns do decide to play on their strength, there’s no one better than San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. His Super Bowl championship experience, along with experience at several coaching positions, makes him an ideal head coach candidate for a franchise suffering from transition.

    3) Joe Brady

Adding an up-and-coming offensive leader, Joe Brady, is also another way to go. Rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders could benefit a lot if the Browns hire the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator. Brady is known for his scheme creativity and strong quarterback collaboration.

    4) Jim Schwartz

Generally, the best way to fill the most important position of the team is to promote internally. In that regard, Browns’ defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who could be the least blamed for their terrible 2025 season, becomes a logical choice. Schwartz has been with the Browns since 2023 and has previously served as the Detroit Lions head coach from 2009 to 2013, during which he went 29-51.

Given his deep familiarity with the Browns roster and culture, he can become the next head coach. However, this may not be what Cleveland wants, as they essentially indicated they are going for an external hire.

    5) Mike LaFleur

Mike LaFleur is currently the offensive coordinator for the LA Rams, who are in the playoffs. His offensive resume, youth, and modern scheme could appeal to the Browns’ front office as they seek to re-energize a stagnant attack.
