Former US First Lady Michelle Obama didn’t mince words about gender and politics in America during a book promotion event on November 5 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Obama whilst discussing about her new book “The Look” in a conversation with actor Tracee Ellis Ross had this to say about the allegedly prevalent gender-based politics in America:
As we saw in the past election, sadly, we ain’t ready,” Obama stated.
“That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not,” she further elaborated.

“Don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. So don’t waste my time. We got a lot of growing up to do.”

This prompted Stephen A Smith to address Obama’s remarks on his show “Straight Shooter with Stephen A”. He addressed Obama directly, asking her to stop blaming the American people, especially men, for former Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss.
“Run, Michelle, run. But if you don’t, could you please stop blaming us?” Smith began (47:47).
“Neither one of us has given the slightest indication that we wouldn’t support you. Respectfully, Kamala Harris was not you,” he further stated (48:03).
The ESPN personality also pointed to several specific issues that plagued Harris’s campaign, mentioning her administration’s immigration policies whilst also questioning the administrations claim that the borders were secure which, according to Smith, was a lie.
Stephen A. Smith Urges Democrats to Abandon Far-Left Progressivism
Smith on his show also referenced controversial issues that Republicans used against Harris, including positions on transgender policies in prisons and parental consent for medical procedures. While acknowledging these claims might not be entirely accurate, he implied that perception matters in politics.
He then urged the Democrats to move toward the center, asking them to stop being extreme leftists.
“move to the center. Stop with all this far-left progressivism. Move to the center,” Smith stated (49:40).
Meanwhile, Michelle Obama whilst speaking about her experience in the White House, noted that many men remain unwilling to be led by a woman, pointing to recent events as evidence of that resistance.
Michelle Obama, who served as First Lady from 2009 to 2017 during Barack Obama’s presidency also spoke about what her new book “The Look” is about. The book, co-authored with Michelle’s long-term stylist is about identity and confidence and Obama hopes that the book sparks a conversation on perception of women and societal definition of beauty.
