Josh Johnson Career Earnings: Breaking Down NFL Contracts and Salary of Commanders QB

Washington Commanders quarterback Josh Johnson got the 10th start of his NFL career on Christmas Day today. With quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota out with injuries, the veteran quarterback got the start today against the Dallas Cowboys, which is first start of the 2025-2026 season.

Johnson appeared in Washington’s Week 16 game against the Philadelphia Eagles last Saturday, filling in for an injured Mariota. Johnson completed five of his nine passing attempts for 43 yards and threw an interception.

In his career, Johnson has completed 58 percent of his passes for 2,340 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed for 426 yards and a touchdown in his career.

How Much Has Josh Johnson Earned in His NFL Career?

Josh Johnson has played for 11 different teams during his 14-year NFL career. According to spotrac.com, Johnson has earned $12,071,785 throughout his career. That’s less than $1 million per season as he averages $862,270 per season. Still, that is much, much better than what the average person makes.

This season, Johnson is making $1.25 million with the Commanders, as he signed a one-year contract with the team on April 11.

Of the 11 teams he’s been on, Johnson has earned the most money as a member of the Baltimore Ravens, earning $2.9 million in Baltimore in three seasons.

Washington Commanders Currently Hold the 7th Overall Pick in the 2026 NFL Draft

It hasn’t been the season the Washington Commanders had hoped for. After making it to the NFC Championship last season, many had thought the Commanders and Jayden Daniels in his second season would be contenders in the NFC this year.

Injuries to the team (including multiple to Daniels) got in the way of their success, as they hold a 4-11 record heading into today’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington has already been eliminated from the playoffs and prior to today’s game, and holds the seventh overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Commanders currently trail the Cowboys 21-3 midway through the second quarter, and face the Philadelphia Eagles next week to conclude its regular season.
