Jonathan Owens Didn’t Know Who Simone Biles Was
Owens and Biles have been married since 2023. They first met through an online dating app, and at the time, Owens had no idea who she was. Although it sounds unrealistic, considering Biles is one of the greatest Olympians of all time, Owens opened up about meeting her for the first time on The Pivot Podcast.
The safety stated that the first thing he noticed about her was that she had a lot of followers. So, he understood that Biles was a big name in sports. Still, he didn’t know about her stature in the world of sports.
“When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC. We didn’t have Olympics channels and we’re in camp. We’re in camp in late July, early August,” he said. “So, I’m not paying attention…I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity.” (10:38)
Owens was called ignorant for his comment as fans alleged his statement diminished Biles’ name. The outside noise had little to no effect on their relationship because they’re still going strong.
