John Harbaugh Coaching Career: Breaking Down Teams, Records, and Championships

John Harbaugh recently became part of what has been a consistent cycle in the NFL. When the regular season ends, the struggling teams start looking for ways to improve, and it usually involves moving key pieces.

Harbaugh was fired on Tuesday by the Baltimore Ravens after the team concluded one of its worst regular seasons. The Ravens finished 8-9 in the AFC North and failed to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Firing Harbaugh still came as a shock because he had been the head coach of the Ravens since 2008. The Ravens like stability, especially when it comes to their head coaches.

Since the team was founded in 1996, they have had only three coaches, including Harbaugh. Despite making the playoffs the last three seasons, it was time for them to move on from Harbaugh and find a new leader.

The new coach will have some big shoes to fill because Harbaugh has left a lasting imprint on the franchise and has built a strong legacy. Let’s take a look at some of his records with the Ravens.

What is John Harbaugh’s Coaching Playoff Record?

Harbaugh served the entirety of his head coaching stint with the Ravens. In that time, he made 12 playoff appearances with the Ravens during his 18-year stint. He coached the team in 24 playoff games, won 13, lost 11, and maintained a win percentage of 54.2.

In the regular season, Harbaugh coached the Ravens in 293 games. He won 180, lost 113, and had a win percentage of 61.4. Harbaugh is also responsible for an AFC Championship and six AFC North Championships that the Ravens have.

He holds the record for most wins as a coach for the franchise, as well as most seasons in the head coaching position.

Did John Harbaugh Win a Super Bowl?

The Super Bowl is what every team ultimately aims for. All the regular-season and playoff records pale in comparison to a Super Bowl win. It also serves as a metric to assess the impact of every great coach.

Harbaugh engraved his name in the history books when he won the 2012 Super Bowl with the Ravens. That was his first and only Super Bowl win and the second overall for the Baltimore Ravens.

They won their first Super Bowl in 2000 under Brian Billick. Even though Harbaugh has one SB win on his resume, not repeating the same in over a decade became one of the reasons why he was fired by the franchise.
