Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon has not yet played any game during the 2025 season, and it is already around the midway point. This has led many to wonder if he will ever play, and the lack of updates from the team over the last few weeks has many asking if his season was already over before it even began.
Mixon reportedly suffered a foot injury ahead of training camp and was placed on the non-football injury list. The team has not released any details as to how the running back received that injury, but he did survive the Texans cutting down its roster to the final 53 players. He has remained on the injured reserve since.
As for the lack of updates about his condition, the last time this came was on October 7 when Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio stated that the running back has been making some progress. After that, nothing else.
“He’s making progress, so we won’t put a particular timetable on it, so I think over the next few three or four weeks, we’ll probably get a little more information here, kind of see how he’s progressing,” he said on Oct. 7. “Once we kind of get to that period, probably have a better sense of which way it’s going to go for the duration of the year.”
This lack of updates has many believing that Joe Mixon might not be taking to the field at all this season, and that foot injury was more serious than was previously thought.
Mixon arrived at Houston via an offseason trade with the Cincinnati Bengals where he had a 1,108-yard, 11-touchdown season in 2024. He was brought in to improve the team’s running game, but so far, that has not happened yet.
No Timetable For Joe Mixon’s Return Has Been Set
Aside from the lack of updates from the Texans, the team has also not yet provided a clear timetable for Joe Mixon’s return, further raising doubts if he would be playing at all this season.
Being on the injured reserve, he was eligible to return around Week 5, but as Week 10 wraps up, he has not even returned yet. It has now also been a month since Caserio last updated the media about the running back’s status.
