Joe Alt Injury: What Happened to Charges LT That During Giants Showdown?

Fifth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, Joe Alt, has suffered what seems like a serious injury during Sunday’s game between his team, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the New York Giants. He’s currently being evaluated in the locker room for what looks like an ankle injury.

Joe Alt was initially able to limp off the field on his own, but then had to be carted off to the locker room. Most likely to avoid further damage to his ankle. The team has already informed that it’s questionable that the left tackle will be able to return to the game against the Giants this afternoon.

The injury could prove to be a serious one for Jim Harbaugh, as Alt has been playing at left tackle due to another injury to a Chargers starter. The former Notre Dame player was the team’s right tackle last season, but had to be moved to left tackle during the preseason due to a season-ending injury to starting left tackle Rashawn Slater. Slater tore his patellar tendon in training camp last month.

Los Angeles Chargers’ coach Jim Harbaugh on New York Giants Jaxson Dart

The starts of the seasons of the Los Angeles Chargers and the New York Giants have been the antithesis of one another. Jim Harbaugh’s team is undefeated so far, with a record of 3-0, and Brian Daboll’s is the polar opposite at 0-3.

This inauspicious start to the season led the Giants to make a radical change ahead of their game against the undefeated Chargers. They benched veteran Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson and decided to give rookie Jaxson Dart his first career start.

Ahead of the game, halfway through the week, Jim Harbaugh had nothing but kind words for the opposing rookie:

“He’s a good player. We can already see that on the tape that we have seen. …Really just presence, mobility. He sees the entire field. Accurate thrower. All the good things, he’s got it. And he’s got that ‘it’ factor, too. You can see that.”

Dart was the 25th overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he was considered a top-three quarterback prospect for this year’s draft class. He was Ole Miss’ starter for three seasons, leading them to winning records each year.
