“Ego Run Amok”: Jason Whitlock Goes Off On Stephen A. Smith As Bizarre Drake Maye Accusation Sparks Controversy

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been beefing with legendary quarterback and analyst Cam Newton, who regularly appears on ESPN’s “First Take.” The show’s host, Stephen A. Smith quickly rushed to his colleague’s defense on the show.

“[Drake Maye] is a liar…First Take is the number one morning show..don’t tell me you a athlete and you don’t know that,” Smith said. “Don’t tell me you a athlete and you don’t know that Cam Newton is on this show. You lying.”

However, as Smith defended Cam Newton, former ESPN columnist Jason Whitlock then slammed Smith for not being able to think that it is possible that Maye really did not know that Cam Newton was on “First Take.”

“You just don’t call a man a liar on national TV because he doesn’t know Cam Newton is on First Take. This is Stephen A Smith’s ego run amok. No one watches TV like that anymore. People see social clips far more than they sit down and watch the slop served on mainstream TV.” Tweeted Whitlock.

Whitlock had previously been fired from ESPN after some controversial comments he had made regarding some of his colleagues there.

The feud between Maye and Newton came after the Patriots quarterback claimed he did not know what show Newton was on after the former QB stated that he believes that the New England Patriots might have an early playoff exit.

Drake Maye Still A Favorite To Win MVP This Year

Despite the New England Patriots still having many doubters, the team is currently considered the best team in the league, with its quarterback, Drake Maye, currently one of the favorites to win MVP.

Maye is currently competing against several other favorites, including the LA Rams’ Matthew Stafford, the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen and the Indianapolis Colts’ Jonathan Taylor. Maye currently leads the NFL in completion percentage (71.9%) and passing yards (2,836), and with his team having the best record at 9-2, he has a big chance to win.
