Sports commentator Jason Whitlock shared his unfiltered take on former NFL tight Shannon Sharpe, who recently claimed that he is short on friends after his alleged sexual assault allegations went viral.
In his recent appearance on Nightcap, Sharpe wonders why several of his friends have distanced themselves after the allegations were made against him.
On Monday’s episode of his show, Whitlock argues that Sharpe shouldn’t be surprised the way his friends reacted in the wake of allegations.
“They were never your friends, and you should have never seen them as your friends. They were people that wanted to ride your coattails of secular success. And now that those coattails have been clipped, they don’t want any part of you. There should be no surprise here, Shannon,” Whitlock said.
Whitlock then went on to add that Sharpe is a confused personality, citing his outfit on the Nightcap podcast, where he wore a cross chain and a t-shirt with a Joker on it.
This is what life — and a world removed from Jesus Christ — looks like,” Whitlock said. “You put your faith and trust in Jesus, and then you’re not surprised when the world turns on you when you get in trouble.
“If you notice in that clip, he’s wearing a chain that has a cross on it, but the T-shirt he has on is the Joker. He’s got his feet in both worlds. He’s confused. And therefore, he’s surprised by how the world reacts when they have no financial gain, no popularity, and they can’t clout-chase off you. There’s no benefit to being Shannon Sharpe’s friend.”
Finally Whitlock calls the conversation between Chad Johnson and Sharpe immature.
“The whole conversation seems a bit immature for people as mature — or as old — as Shannon Sharpe and Ocho,” Whitlock said.
Shannon Sharpe Settles Sexual Assault Lawsuit
Earlier in April, a woman under the pseudonym “Jane Doe” filed a sexual misconduct case in Nevada about entering in a relationship with Sharpe after they met at a Los Angeles gym in 2023. At the time, she was in her 20s and Sharpe was in 50s.
She alleged that what started as a consensual relationship turned abusive, leading to alleged rape in October 2024 and January 2025. She also alleged that Sharpe secretly recorded their sexual encounters without consent while also being controlling towards her.
According to ESPN, the lawsuit sought $50 million in damages. Meanwhile, Sharpe’s attorney denied this allegations, saying it was a “shakedown.”
Finally in July, the lawsuit was settled and dismissed with prejudice. However, the details of the lawsuit haven’t been disclosed.
