“Dope and Deranged”: Jason Whitlock Draws Controversial Parallels to Shedeur Sanders’ Rising Fame

After a long wait, Shedeur Sanders got his moment to shine against the Raiders. Sanders earned his first career starting quarterback nod, and he made the most of the opportunity, completing 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards.

Fans who were waiting for that moment were elated by his performance, and a good outing from Sanders gave them a reason to celebrate. Bold claims about Sanders started flying around, and Kendrick Perkins delivered probably the boldest statement on the QB.

The former NBA star claimed that Sanders is “the most powerful Black man since 2009.” Placing him in the same conversation as former president Barack Obama, Perkins stated that no one has had such an influence on people since 2009.

Perkins might’ve been swayed by emotions, which is understandable, but Jason Whitlock wasn’t willing to let that statement go without a check. On a recent episode of Fearless with Jason Whitlock, he ridiculed Perkins while drawing controversial parallels to Sanders’ rising fame.

“What we’re witnessing with Shedeur Sanders is dope and deranged,” Whitlock said. “When I watched that clip [of Perkins], I was like, ‘Oh, these guys gotta be high.” (From 23:00)

“Shedeur Sanders is the latest iteration of Colin Kaepernick,” Whitlock added. “Colin Kaepernick has been a clown, remains a clown, was a clown from the very get-go, and everybody eventually figured out.”

Whitlock stated that Sanders is going to end up like Kaepernick. He believes that Sanders needs to work on his personality, stop trying to look arrogant, and focus on his game. In his opinion, doing so will set him free from the fake love he receives from social media.

What Did Kendrick Perkins Say About Shedeur Sanders?

Following Sanders’ performance against the Raiders, Perkins shared a clip on Instagram talking about the Browns quarterback. He heaped praise on him, congratulated Sanders on a brilliant outing, but also ended up making some tall claims.

Other than the comment where he claimed Sanders is the most powerful Black man since Obama in 2009, he also claimed that Sanders is bringing the entire community together and that he’s the most powerful person in sports today.

“You got the black community. He’s bringing the whole black community together,” Perkins said. “He’s having fun with this. He’s the most powerful black man in sports. As a matter of fact, he’s the most powerful player in sports.”

Whitlock addressed this part of his comment on the show as well. He named people stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Caitlin Clark and wondered how that statement made any sense in Perkins’ head.
