Sports commentator Jason Whitlock was not quite happy after an X user compared the way American politician Thomas Massie and Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, grieved.
Both Massie and Erik lost their beloved partners. Massie remarried over a year after his wife of 35 years died in June 2024. Meanwhile, Erika continues to carry the mantle of her late husband’s legacy as she became the new CEO of Turning Point USA.
An X user, “Mostly Peaceful Latinas”, made a controversial post on X, taking a jab at the community of men for moving on so early. The post read:
“You see how they hate on Erika Kirk for grieving the wrong way? Thomas Massie’s wife died last year and he already got remarried. Men don’t even wait for your body to be decomposed before they move on. There is a lesson somewhere in there.”

In reply to this, Whitlock expressed his denial with the above sentiment. He asks netizens not to compare men and women as both process grieving differently.
He wrote:
“There’s another way to look at it. Men, particularly powerful men, struggle with sexual discipline. He remarried quickly so he could remain/pursue holiness. Men and women are not the same. Massie isn’t St. Paul. He knows it. Men and women should not be compared this way. Or at all.”

Charlie Kirk’s Widow Erika Receives Backlash On Her Unique Grief Process
On September 10, conservative activist and co‐founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated while he was speaking at a campus event at Utah Valley University. Days after his death, Erika reaffirmed her commitment to continue her husband’s movement and mission.
“In a world filled with chaos, doubt and uncertainty, my husband’s voice will remain and it will ring out louder and more clearly than ever and his wisdom will endure,” she said.
Shortly afterwards, she was announced as the new CEO of Turning Point USA. As she takes the new leadership position, several are arguing that Erika is mourning like a public figure rather than someone who has just suffered a personal loss. Her constant media appearances and speeches have opened her to scrutiny from the media and netizens.
