With Jaxson Dart currently in concussion protocol, the New York Giants are set to play backup Jameis Winston as their starter on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. This surprised many, as veteran Russell Wilson was supposed to be ranked higher than him on the depth chart. The question now is, how will this affect Fantasy Football?
Wilson actually started for the Giants early in the season, but the Super Bowl-winning veteran underperformed and was soon replaced by Dart, getting demoted to QB2 from QB1. However, Winston, who is usually the QB3, jumped the line in a surprising move from interim coach Mike Kafka, who took over for the fired Brian Daboll.
The move may have been intended to test Winston with the team, as he will have to take over for Wilson as QB2 next year. Wilson’s one-year contract is set to expire next year. His demotion earlier this year gave rise to Jaxson Dart, who is considered one of the most exciting up-and-coming quarterbacks in the NFL today.
Jameis Winston, already a 10-year veteran, has yet to play this season but is expected to return to the team next year as the backup for Jaxson Dart. As for Russell Wilson, the former Seattle Seahawks superstar is expected to be on his way out after this season, with calls for him to retire already getting louder.
Should You Start Jameis Winston in Week 11?
While still untested this season, Jameis Winston is a very accomplished quarterback. Last year, he played for 12 games for the Cleveland Browns, scoring 181 completions for 296 attempts and 2,121 passing yards for 13 touchdown passes, so he has shown that he could still throw a football.
Will this be enough for Fantasy managers to start him? With the young Jaxson Dart still concussed, he might be a viable pickup for Dart owners. However, for those who have him and have other options, it might be wise to go with others who are better.
For now, however, Jameis Winston should be a good pickup if there are no other better options. He has had a better season with Cleveland last year than he did when he was a backup for New Orleans the season prior, which means that he could produce. But with a Giants staff shakeup still happening, there are still a lot of unknown factors going on.
