With only two games in the second window, Jalen Carter’s Philadelphia Eagles vs Buffalo Bills matchup will be essentially the biggest game by default. However, while the Eagles have little to play for, the team has a chance to make Buffalo’s playoff road harder and potentially shape the Super Bowl opponent should Philadelphia make it that far.
For Philadelphia to win against the Bills’ defense, which has shut down some of the biggest quarterbacks in recent weeks, the team’s own defense will need to show up. Of course, that means its roster needs to physically be on the field as well. Carter’s health is in question heading into Week 17, and with the game here, will the pass rusher play? Here’s what we know.
Is Jalen Carter Playing Today?
Jalen Carter logged three full practices heading into Week 17. Additionally, the pass rusher, who had been working through an injury to his shoulders, managed to pull himself off the injury report. He will start Sunday against Buffalo, according to an Eagles update on X via NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Week 17 will be Carter’s first in-game action since Nov. 28 against the Chicago Bears. In the contest, he logged four tackles and a sack. He will look to continue the streak post-injury.
Carter has earned two sacks this season and will look to add his third.
Is Eagles’ Lane Johnson Playing Today?
According to the official Philadelphia Eagles injury report, Lane Johnson’s foot injury kept him out of practice all week long. The injury will also keep him from playing against the Buffalo Bills.
With Johnson out, Fred Johnson is set to start at right tackle in his stead. Fred had been listed on the injury report with a calf injury, but after three full practices, he appears to be back to full health.
Fred has logged a 58.3 PFF grade this season, ranking him 64th out of 83 tackles. As such, the Eagles will need to weigh how much they can run with Saquon Barkley to the right side of the field.
