Jahmyr Gibbs and the Detroit Lions are playing the Minnesota Vikings this afternoon in one of the NFL’s Christmas Day games. The Lions come to the game with only 7% chances of making the postseason in a couple of weeks, so the game is a must-win for them if they want to remain in the hunt.
They come to the game as 7.5-point favorites, according to DraftKings, while the ESPN game predictor gives them a 74.8% chance of winning.
Someone who seems to be enjoying the encounter is Gibbs’s girlfriend, Nicole Anderson, who went to her Instagram story to repost a picture of the Lions running back and added the following caption:
“Merry Christmas. Go Lions.”
Jahmyr Gibbs is in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career so far. He has run for 1102 yards, with 13 rushing touchdowns in 207 carries. He’s seventh for the most rushing yards in the NFL, tied second for the most rushing touchdowns, and third in yards per carry (5.3).
Jahmyr Gibbs is three touchdowns away from his career-best in 2024 (16 touchdowns). It seems unlikely that he will tie his career-best yardage of 2024 (1412 rushing yards), as he’s 300 yards away from it, with just two games left in the year. However, he can come close to it.
What Do The Detroit Lions Need To Make The Postseason?
The first thing that the Lions need to qualify is win out. If Detroit doesn’t win out, any hope of making the postseason would be shattered. They are currently playing the Minnesota Vikings, and they play the Chicago Bears next week. Both games are on the road.
That’s possibly the easiest part of the equation. The most difficult part is that they need the Green Bay Packers to lose out. The Packers play the Baltimore Ravens at home this week and the Minnesota Vikings on the road to close out the regular season in Week 18.
Even if they win, Detroit might end up tied with the Carolina Panthers, and tiebreaker rules might be at play.
