J.J. McCarthy’s Fiancée Katya Kuropas Calls Out ESPN For Doubting Vikings Star Following Massive Rivalry Win Over Detroit

The Minnesota Vikings managed an important victory on Sunday, beating the Detroit Lions 27-24 under the leadership of quarterback J.J. McCarthy. This was the quarterback’s third career start in his second year in the NFL. He hadn’t started for the Vikings since mid-September, when he suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Atlanta Falcons, which required six weeks of rehab.

The Detroit Lions, with a positive record of 5-2 before the Sunday encounter, came in as heavy favorites. Someone thrilled to see McCarthy flip the NFL’s proverbial script is his fiancée, Katya Kuropas. She posted a meme mocking ESPN’s pre-game picks, with an image of McCarthy laughing at the bottom.

In all honesty, McCarthy’s game wasn’t anything to write home about, with only 143 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. His completion percentage was a poor 56%. He was also sacked five times. His QBR was 54.5, and his rating was 82.6.

J.J. McCarthy On The Victory Over The Detroit Lions

Despite the poor personal numbers, the victory was more than enough to make J.J. McCarthy incredibly happy. When speaking in the aftermath of the game, he highlighted his own resilience, coming back after weeks on the IR list:

“It was awesome,” McCarthy said, choking up. “When you’re hurt, being on IR last year, and being out for five weeks, it absolutely kills me not being out there with those guys because I love every single one of them.

“I know they got my back — and I’ve got theirs — the rest of the way.”

Regardless of the numbers, McCarthy has proven to be someone who can steer Minnesota to victory. While he couldn’t start a single game in his rookie year due to injury, through three starts in his career, he has a record of 2-1. The one defeat, against the Atlanta Falcons, is not entirely his fault, as he left the game with an injury long before the game ended.

More importantly, he opened his NFL starting career with a 27-24 victory over the Chicago Bears, beating Caleb Williams, the first overall pick of J.J. McCarthy’s draft class.
