Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy and his long-time love Katya Kuropas celebrated a special milestone on Wednesday. The duo have known each other since they were 15 and are now currently engaged.
Katya dropped several photos on Instagram documenting their journey after they first met during high school, at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Illinois. The photos also included one with their newborn and their maternity photoshoots. The post was captioned:
“7 years, 2 dogs and 1 baby later & I love you more than I did when we were 15🫶🏽 happy anniversary love , our last one before we get married!!!😆”

The couple previously also celebrated their anniversary in 2021. At that moment, McCarthy showed gratitude for Katya’s support.
“3 trips around the sun with the love of my life,” he wrote. “I honestly do not even know where I would be without this girl in my life. I simply do not deserve her because of the kind of woman she is. The pureness in her heart and soul is just one the many qualities that make this girl so incredible.”
While they met as teenagers in Illinois, they didn’t officially started dating before October 8, 2018. At the time, McCarthy was a sophomore in high school. During the Covid-19 pandemic, their relationship battled long distance as McCarthy transferred to IMG Academy in Florida. They engaged in January 2024.
In January 2025, McCarthy celebrated Katya’s birthday with a warm post reaffirming his love for her. He wrote:
“She’s my everything – my muse, my rock, and the heart of my universe. For what is a flame without its wick. A Viking without a star to guide him. Thank you forever, my love, for never wavering when the inevitable storms arise on our voyage together.”
J.J. McCarthy And Katya Became Parents To Baby Boy
Earlier in May, the couple announced their pregnancy saying they were due for a baby boy in September. They welcomed their son Rome Micah McCarthy last month. He was 8.7lbs
and 21in at the time of birth. Katya posted the photo of the baby on Instagram, writing:
“Welcome to the world Rome Micah McCarthy ✨The sweetest, most perfect gift from God!! We are so unbelievably blessed to be your parents💙”

McCarthy is currently in the middle of his 2025 season. He missed his rookie year due to torn meniscus.
