Injuries are part of the game of football, and Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has already has his fair share of them.
Prior to entering the NFL, McCarthy suffered a thumb fracture and ankle sprain. That isn’t that bad. But last year during the preseason of his rookie season, McCarthy suffered a season-ending meniscus tear.
In Week 2 of the 2025-2026 season, McCarthy suffered an ankle sprain, which caused him to miss five games. He returned in Week 9 against the Detroit Lions. But just over two months later, McCarthy is dealing with a new injury and could be sidelined again.
J.J. McCarthy Injury Update
On the team’s flight home back from its loss to the Green Bay Packers yesterday, J.J. McCarthy reported symptoms of possibly having a concussion. This resulted in him being evaluated for a concussion from the team last night.
Is J.J. McCarthy Playing In Week 13?
After being evaluated for concussion symptoms last night, the Minnesota Vikings have placed J.J. McCarthy in concussion protocol a day later on Monday. With it being too early into the week, head coach Kevin O’Connell has yet to rule out McCarthy for this weekend’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Who’s Next On Vikings QB Depth Chart?
If J.J. McCarthy is a no go for Sunday, Max Brosmer will get the start at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Brosmer will work with the first team offense while McCarthy is in concussion protocol.
Brosmer was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota this offseason, and made the Vikings‘ initial 53-man roster. He’s appeared in four games this season, completing 5-8 passes for 42 yards. He also has a carry for -1 yard.
It would be more than ideal for the 4-7 Vikings to face the high-powered 8-3 Seattle Seahawks this weekend without McCarthy. He will have to pass concussion protocol before the team even makes a decision about his status for Sunday.
