McCarthy has already missed six games this season, most of them due to a right ankle sprain he suffered in September, which took him off the field for five encounters. In November, he missed one game due to a concussion.
It’s more than likely that he won’t play more this season, as there are only a couple of games left in the year. McCarthy’s career in the NFL has been marred by a myriad of injuries. He is the first quarterback ever drafted in the first round to have missed his entire rookie year due to a season-ending injury.
What happened to J.J. McCarthy?
J.J. McCarthy suffered a hairline fracture to his right hand during Week 16 against the New York Giants. Max Brosmer took over for him and closed out the 16-13 victory. This is the third injury the former Michigan quarterback has suffered this year, having missed five games early in the year with a high ankle sprain. He also missed one game in late November with a concussion.
He also missed the entirety of his 2024 season, his rookie year, with a fully torn meniscus in his right knee.
Will J.J. McCarthy Play This Week?
No, it’s been confirmed that he’s off for Week 17 with a hairline fracture to his right hand. With the Minnesota Vikings out of playoff contention already, it seems unlikely that we will see him again this season, as the franchise wouldn’t want to put him at risk for a meaningless last game of the season against the Green Bay Packers.
