Is Jayden Daniels Playing This Week? Everything You Need to Know About Commanders QB Ahead of NFL Christmas Day

The Commanders. It has not been an easy time to be a fan this year. Last year, Washington was able to be the Cinderella story of the NFL playoffs. They upset both the Buccaneers and the Lions before falling to the Eagles in the Conference Championship. This year, it is a completely different story. The struggles with injuries, including those affecting franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels, have hindered the team. Daneils has not been able to stay upright this year, getting hurt in four different games. This weekend, it doesn’t look like the Commanders want to add to that total.

Dan Quinn had already ruled Daniels out for the rest of the games this year in a previous press conference. The Commanders have already been eliminated from the playoffs. Quinn did imply that it was not worth the risk to play Daniels. It looks like he might try some different things to end the year and see what works for this team.

[The decision was] “part medical and part team.” – QUinn said

Quinn also said that part of the decision was because of Daniels’ injuries throughout the year. Daniels had made it back to the team against the Vikings in Week 14. Although in this game he reaggravated his elbow that had previously been dislocated.

Marcus Mariota will continue to be the starting QB in Washington. He has already gotten 10 games under his belt and will look to finish the season on a high note.

What’s Next for the Commanders and Daniels

There is an offseason ahead for Washington to figure out how to get this team back to the playoffs. While the offense was a struggle during parts of this season, there has been almost no time when everyone was healthy. Terry McLaurin was another player who missed considerable time early. Once he and Daniels are back to 100%, there should be some hope for this team in 2026.

The Commanders will likely look at defensive help this offseason. Shoring up a side that hasn’t been great even during the playoff run will be huge to the 2026 campaign as well.

    Final Thoughts

While Commander fans can be frustrated with how this season has turned out, there are bright points. The offense should be back and ready in 2026. The defense could get some new blood in the offseason. And finally, the Draft could provide them with the next star. Although for now, the Commanders will have to finish up without their star QB.
