Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a gruesome dislocated elbow injury last week. Late in the team’s game against Seattle last week, Daniels attempted to catch himself while being tackled, but when he planted his hand on the ground, his arm bent the wrong way, dislocating his elbow. As a result, he will not be available for the Commanders this week.
While Daniels will be out this week, it is uncertain if he will miss the rest of the season. he had already missed three games this season, two because of a sprained left knee, and another because of a minor injury to his right hamstring.
Fortunately for Daniels and the Commanders, the injury was not as bad as originally feared. He had no fractures from the dislocation, and as a result, he will not require surgery. This should shorten the recovery timeline, but he will still miss several weeks. As a result, fantasy owners will need a quarterback replacement in the meantime.
Here is a look at three waiver wire replacements who, according to Fantasy Pros, are owned in less than 50% of leagues.
Top 3 Fantasy Replacements for Jayden Daniels
Sam Darnold
One interesting option who could be available on your waiver wire is Sam Darnold. After a stellar season in Minnesota last year, Darnold is having another strong season, this time in Seattle. The Seahawks are performing better than expected this year, and a major reason for that has been the play of Darnold.
Darnold has shown great consistency this season, throwing for over 200 yards in all but the first game of the season. Going up against a weak Arizona team on Sunday, Darnold could have a big fantasy week.
J.J. McCarthy
Minnesota rookie J.J. McCarthy is an interesting player because we have not seen him play much at the NFL level. Injuries have forced him to miss all but three games this year. He returned last week, helping the Vikings defeat the Lions. Going up against a Ravens defense that has struggled this season, McCarthy could have a breakout game.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers is still a viable fantasy option in 2024. While he is not playing at the MVP level he was at five years ago, he has been reliable for the Steelers this season. He only has one game with fewer than 200 yards this season, and has been consistent. If you are risk-averse, Rodgers is an excellent option.
