The Dallas Cowboys are playing on Christmas Day against the Washington Commanders, with the Commanders being a lot more banged up than their opponents from Texas. However, the Cowboys also have some injuries, including running back Javonte Williams. The question is, will Williams be able to play on Christmas against the Commanders?
He has already tallied 1,147 rushing yards for the Cowboys on 239 attempts, averaging 4.8 yards per game. He has also scored 10 touchdowns and has shown he can work in the passing game as well, with 35 receiving yards. He is a vital piece of the Cowboys’ offence, which means that they always need him to play.
What Happened To Javonte Williams?
Williams suffered a neck injury a few weeks ago and was even playing through injury last Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. It should be noted that the Cowboys have already been eliminated from contention ahead of this game, so they did not need Williams to aggravate his neck injury any further by playing him, yet he still played.
Williams still had 57% of the snap share during that game, with him getting 11 attempts and rushing for 43 yards from scrimmage, and this is despite his injured neck.
Will Javonte Williams Play on Christmas Day vs. the Washington Commanders?
During Monday’s practice, he had a limited walkthrough, and his limited practice continued on Tuesday. During the third day of practices, however, he logged in a full practice on Wednesday. After that, Jon Machota of The Athletic has confirmed that Javonte Williams will be suiting up for the Cowboys on Christmas Day and will once again play despite the neck injury.
There are only two games left for the Cowboys this season, including the one against the Commanders, so Williams is making the most of it. However, reports indicate that he may be taken out or given rest on some snaps, allowing backup Malik Davis to also play.
Javonte Williams Fantasy Outlook
Williams has put up monster numbers and has played even though he is hurt, so his Fantasy outlook should look good. However, with backup Malik Davis also possibly playing to let the hurt Javonte Williams also rest up, he might now be able to put up his usual numbers. It should be safe to sit him for now and find another running back, though playing him if there are no other good options can also be viable.
