The Minnesota Vikings have been hit with the injury plague, as many, including QB1 JJ McCarthy, are considered injured. To make matters worse, during Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, it appears that their backup quarterback, Carson Wentz, who has been playing as the team’s starter since McCarthy got injured, may have also gotten himself injured.
The Chargers dominated the already-depleted Vikings during that game 37-10, with Wentz coming off the field with an apparent injury, drawing concerns from fans. The quarterback had been listed in the team’s injury report prior to the Thursday Night Football showdown at Los Angeles, but he still started, while McCarthy was listed as questionable and is currently on his way to recovery.
What Happened to Carson Wentz?
During the team’s third down in the second quarter, a pass from Carson Wentz was swatted off by a defender midair and was thrown back at him. He tried swatting it away to stop an interception, but he ended up looking like he was hurt and favoring his left shoulder, which is his non-throwing shoulder.
Immediately after the drive, Wentz went to the medical tent to get that shoulder checked out, the same shoulder he had been having trouble with even before the team arrived in Los Angeles. He was soon benched but came back in the final possession, with him getting 15 completions on 27 attempts for 144 yards. He also had one touchdown and one interception.
With their usual starting quarterback still sidelined, Wentz had been playing through injury and Vikings insider Alec Lewis revealed a new update on Wentz’s condition, reporting that his shoulder brace, which he called a “contraption” in his tweet, looked much larger than previously. The insider says that he believes that Wentz is currently suffering from a “pretty serious injury.”
“Carson Wentz’s contraption on his non-throwing shoulder looks bigger than last week. Have said many times: He’s playing through a pretty serious injury, must avoid hits,” the Vikings insider tweeted.

This does not look good for the team’s already-precarious injury situation, with a lot of their players already missing action or playing hurt. Should Wentz be sidelined, it will have to fall on rookie Max Brosmer to lead the team until JJ McCarthy can return, which the team expects will be very soon, given the current injury situation.
