Jim Harbaugh has long been tied to Michigan football, both as a player and as a coach. He starred as a quarterback for the Wolverines in the 1980s before heading to the NFL, where he spent a brief stint with the Detroit Lions late in his career.
He returned to Michigan in 2015 as their head coach. Over the next nine seasons, Harbaugh rebuilt the Wolverines into a powerhouse, capping his run with the 2023 national championship. His time on the sidelines from 2015 to 2023 cemented his status as a Michigan legend.
That championship season led to one of the more unexpected stories surrounding Harbaugh. True to a promise he made to his players, he had a tattoo inked on his right shoulder after Michigan went undefeated and captured the title.
The design featured the block “M” logo along with the 15-0 record that defined the Wolverines’ perfect campaign. His daughter, Grace Harbaugh, had a hilarious reaction to the tattoo.

The move showed just how much the achievement meant to Jim Harbaugh, who had been chasing the sport’s biggest prize since he returned to his alma mater.
“I have no ink on my body. No tattoos anywhere, but I did say that to our players. I said if we go 15-0, I’m getting a tattoo. It’s 15-0. I’m going to put it on my shoulder, I don’t know if it’s my left or right yet. I’m a right-handed quarterback. I’ll probably get it on my right. And then an M too, an M that’s maize and blue M,” Harbaugh had said at the time.
The tattoo was both a personal milestone for Jim and a permanent tribute to Michigan’s most memorable season in decades.
Grace Harbaugh Made Jim Harbaugh an Internet Sensation
While Coach Harbaugh is better known for his contributions to football, both as a player and a coach, he became an internet sensation in 2022. His daughter, Grace, decided to put videos of him doing ‘dad activities’ on TikTok, and they became an instant hit.
Grace’s videos showed her dad in different settings, such as at the airport or mowing his lawn, and the internet loved it.
“From that point on, I just decided to take some clips and hop on the airport dad trend on TikTok,” she told Impersonal Foul. “After getting off a flight and seeing the response, I couldn’t believe it! It’s so funny because it’s just how he is, too.”
Seeing the coach outside the field and doing things with his family resonated with a lot of fans. When he was told by Grace about the comments on the videos, he couldn’t believe people loved him for doing day-to-day activities.
