Gardner Minshew Injury Update: Chiefs Backup QB Escapes Patrick Mahomes’ Fate As Insider Shares New Details

It could be the end of the bad news for the Chiefs. While previously it was thought that Gardner Minshew II tore his ACL against the Titans, it appears things have changed. On X, according to Underdog Sports, Minshew avoided tearing his ACL. The report is credited to Ian Rapoport, who confirmed the news on his one X account.

While this means Minshew will not be out for an extended period for the Chiefs, he will still miss a few games. With the end of the season approaching as well, it looks like Minshew will not be in action for Kansas City for the rest of the year. Right now, there is no confirmation for how much game time Minshew will miss.

It looks like the Chiefs will turn to Chris Oladokun now. Oladokun finished the game after Minshew went down and showed some signs of life for the Chiefs’ offense that was struggling for most of the game. It looks like Oladokun could be the starter for the next game, although Andy Reid did confirm that they will bring in another QB during the week.

    What’s Next for Kansas City?

The Chiefs don’t have anything left to play for anymore after they were eliminated. While it does seem like the team wants to finish the season on a high note, there will be a lot of questions about how much time the starters are going to get moving forward. This is a team that is playing with its third-string QB.

This is the first time Oladokun has played. Last January, he got some playing time after Carson Wentz got the start at the end of the year vs the Broncos. Oladokun didn’t throw any passes that game, but he did rush for 5 yards.

Ironically, the next game on the schedule is quite similar for the new QB. The Chiefs have a Christmas Day matchup vs the Broncos. Denver will be looking to grab the number one seed in the AFC, so the Chiefs still have the opportunity to play for something in this next matchup.

    Bottom Line

The Chiefs aren’t used to losing. That has been clear ever since Andy Reid took over this team. The more impressive thing to look at here is that this is the first time the Chiefs will have a losing record since 2013. That’s pretty great in the NFL. Maybe the good news for Minshew will be the start of this team’s turnaround.
