$25,000,000 Worth Former NFL HC Leads Giants Head Coaching Search List As Mike Kafka’s Future Unclear

The 2025 NFL season has been one to forget for the New York Giants, as they currently hold an abysmal 3-13 record, with their entire campaign laced with a lot of coaching instabilities.

After a string of poor performances, the Giants fired their head coach Brian Daboll back in November following a 2-8 start, after which offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Mike Kafka took over the reins from Daboll as the New York-based franchise’s interim head coach.

Despite this change in coaches, the Giants have failed to show any signs of improvement, losing five of their six games in their post-Daboll era.

This lack of solid results could potentially put Kafka’s future at risk, with reports suggesting that the Big Blue are now in the hunt for a new head coach ahead of the new NFL season.

ESPN’s NFL insider Jordan Raanan has reported that the Giants are now looking to cast a wide coaching search with a lot of big names.

One of the reported names that stands out the most is former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, as he is reportedly in the fray to be interviewed as one of the potential head coach prospects for the Giants.

The $25 million-worth head coach, before becoming the Raiders’ head coach in 2024, also served the Vegas-based franchise as their linebackers coach in 2022 and 2023 while also being their interim head coach in 2023.

McCarthy, Shula Emerge As Other Names In Giants’ New Head Coach Search

The other prospects who are also reportedly being considered for the Giants’ HC gig are Mike McCarthy and Chris Shula.

Most commonly known for the 2010 Super Bowl championship with the Packers, McCarthy has one of the most stacked profiles as far as head coach prospects are concerned. He also coached the Dallas Cowboys from 2020 through 2024, which included three consecutive 12-win seasons and two NFC East titles.

Chris Shula is another name on the Giants’ list of head coach prospects, despite never being an NFL head coach before. Now the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator, Shula has been with the LA franchise since 2017, having also served as the San Diego Chargers’ defensive quality control coach in 2015 and 2016.
