Despite scoring 30 points on Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Detroit Lions in a high-scoring matchup, 44-30. Once more, one of the best offenses in the league was let down by a defense that seems unable to stop anyone.
I can’t remember the last time, if ever, I’ve seen anything like the George Pickens situation last night.
There were about 10 different plays where he was jogging and / or didn’t even try for the ball.

However, not everyone in the Cowboys offense gave their all on Thursday Night Football. A lot of analysts and fans were baffled by George Pickens’ seeming disinterest in the game. The player just seemed mentally out of the game, and his attitude was all over the place.
Former LSU star and current analyst Ryan Clark put a finger on it during Friday’s edition of ESPN’s First Take:
“Well, we need him to be a raccoon. I needed him to be a savage last night. I needed him… to go out and show me how much it mattered,” (10:30)
George Pickens’ Attitude was his Downfall at Pittsburgh
A Thursday report by ESPN also highlighted how George Pickens’ attitude was his downfall with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The article came before the game against the Lions, but what the anonymous sources quoted said could as well have been about Pickens’ performance on Thursday.
“He’s a child,” one Steelers source said bluntly about the team’s problems with Pickens. “The playmaking is breathtaking. You can’t take that away from him. He just really struggled with the maturity part [in Pittsburgh]. You didn’t know what you were going to get day to day.”

“When he was having a good day, he’s really fun to be around. Funny, cracking jokes, huge smile,” a Steelers source said. “When he wasn’t having a good day, he didn’t want to be bothered or coached. I could never put my finger on why.”
Pickens caught just five passes for 37 yards during Thursday Night Football. The worries increase for the Cowboys, with CeeDee Lamb having left the game with a concussion. Will Pickens be able to fill in for him if he has to step aside for a few weeks?
