Former Browns Executive Drops Shocking Statement on Kevin Stefanski’s Trade Rumors Amid Disappointing 4–12 Record in 2025

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski might be the one who gets traded following a disastrous 4-12 season with a game remaining against the Cincinnati Bengals. Under the former two-time Coach of the Year, Cleveland has gone 7-26 over the past two seasons.

While it’s rare for NFL coaches to get traded, there is a precedent. ESPN first sparked the report on X. Replying to it, former Browns executive Joe Banner dropped a shocking statement about this rumor.

“A coach with a 42-57 record is getting traded for something. Anything is possible but this would be surprising,” Banner wrote on X.

NFL insider Conor Orr called the trade rumors nothing more than a “smoke.”

“Speaking of the Browns,” Orr wrote, “there was some league-wide chatter about the potential of a Kevin Stefanski trade — ‘smoke,’ as one industry source put it…”

However, some sources stated that the trade isn’t imminent and Cleveland could simply fire Stefanski instead of swapping for draft picks. Meanwhile, there have also been reports that Stefanski has been tied for the position with the New York Giants.

The Browns brought in Stefanski before the 2020 season. He signed an extension with the Browns in June 2024.

Browns HC Kevin Stefanski Addresses Trade Rumors

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is uncertain beyond the 2025 season. However, rather than spending time thinking about the uncontrollable future, Stefanski is focused on the upcoming game against the Bengals.

“As you can imagine, my sole focus is on this game against Cincinnati,” Stefanski told reporters. “But I also would tell you I’m privileged to have this job.”

Meanwhile, Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders also shared his thoughts on the rumor.

“I don’t think we listen to the external stuff. He’s our coach,” Sanders told reporters Wednesday. “We view him as the same as we view him the first week. You know, we got the utmost respect for him. And yeah, I think that’s more media stuff, that’s more outside noise.”

Meanwhile, defensive end Myles Garrett, who is on the cusp of history to break the NFL’s single-season sack record, said he wants results no matter who’s in charge.
