Week 8 has officially hit the NFL season, and 6 NFL teams are on bye. The Cardinals, Lions, Jaguars, Raiders, Rams, and Seahawks all won’t play, leaving fantasy owners scrambling for replacements. This week is going to be about wavier wire pickups and bench depth. If teams have one or both, it could be the factor that wins their matchup this week. Here are some replacement options to keep teams afloat during a huge bye week.
Reliable Replacements
Marvin Mims Jr. (Broncos)
Mims has had more and more targets from Bo Nix over the past two weeks and faces a defense that has given up over 250 yards per game. He looks to be a vertical threat, which is always interesting for fantasy owners, as Mims could grab some explosive plays when targeted. Look for Mims on the waiver wire as one of the top WR replacements available.
Kyle Monangai (Bears)
If running back is the biggest issue on your team, look no further than Kyle Monangai. His workload has grown steadily over the last few weeks, with his latest stint finishing with 17.4 fantasy points. If Monangai is going to get used at the goal line like he was last week, he could start to become a weekly start, but for now, he is a great pickup to start immediately.
Kayshon Boutee (Patriots)
Boutee’s connection with Drake Maye is hard to deny after the third-year WR scored another touchdown last week. In the last two weeks, he has been a WR11, and he is still available in the majority of leagues. Now that the Patriots’ offense is rolling, this should be a great pickup for almost any fantasy team.
Jaxson Dart (Giants)
Dart and Cam Skattebo are on an extremely impressive run over the last few weeks, all without Malik Nabers. Even though the Giants found themselves on the wrong side of a comeback win last week against Denver, they still look significantly improved. If Dart can continue this success, there is no reason he should not be rostered in leagues. He is easily an add and start if he is available.
Oronde Gadsden (Chargers)
Gadsden is the best add and start tight end available in Week 8. He has grabbed over 7 receptions in the past two games, and it seems like he and Herbert are forming a connection. He should get some targets in what looks to be a close game against the Vikings.
Final Thoughts
With the number of teams that are on bye this week, managers who can pick up players on the waiver wire have a huge advantage over those who don’t. It is shaping up to be a survival Week as the strongest will win and survive in another week of fantasy football.
