“Idiotic Playcall,” “F*cking Fraud”: Fans Lash Out at Sean McVay as Rams HC’s Crunch Time Disaster Leads to 26-23 Loss vs 49ers

Head coach Sean McVay and the LA Rams were humbled by the San Francisco 49ers in a Thursday Night Football game where Kyle Shanahan’s team won 26-23. McVay’s late-game decision-making came into question, as not going for aggressive options gave the 49ers the game on a silver platter.

Running back Kyren Williams fumbled at the goal line, and when there was an opportunity to go aggressive on a fourth-down play late in the final quarter, the head coach opted to punt rather than go for it. The game went to overtime, where there was another opportunity to nail a fourth-down play. McVay had Williams running from the middle, and as expected, he was easily stopped on a fourth-and-short, ending their comeback hopes.

Fans online blasted the head coach for his poor decisions late in the game.

“Idiotic playcall by Sean McVay there,” one fan wrote.

“Sean McVay you f**king fraud,” another fan added.

One fan trolled the head coach for using two timeouts to come up with such an uncreative play.

“Sean McVay, potentially the most creative OC of all time, had 2 timeouts to figure out what play to run with 4th&1 in OT and whipped this out,” the fan wrote.

“Sean McVay’s brain on the last play (F*CK THE RAMS FOR TS!!),” one fan wrote.

“Sean McVay with his best Mike McCarthy impression with a run up the middle on fourth down,” one fan commented.

“Sean McVay has -Matthew Stafford; -Puka Nacua; -Davantae Adams, and yet the okay call on fourth and one is a RUN UP THE MIDDLE??? Sean McVay is a FRAUD,” one fan wrote.

The 49ers entered the game without several of their players, such as Brock Purdy (QB), Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, George Kittle, and Nick Bosa. In Purdy’s absence, Mac Jones did considerably well. He held his poise, completing 33 of 49 passes for 342 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other hand, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes while throwing for 389 yards.

At one point, the 49ers were leading the game 20-7 before the Rams started to mount a comeback. Puka Nacua caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Stafford, followed by Kyren Williams catching an 8-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter.

However, the extra point was blocked, tying the game at 20–20. The two teams traded field goals to send the game into overtime, where the 49ers took a lead through another field goal while Williams fumbled at the endzone for his team to lose the game 26-23.
