The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room has been a topic of discussion all season, with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders competing for playing time. Now that veteran Joe Flacco has been traded to the Cincinnati Bengals, the two rookies are expected to compete for the starting role for the rest of the season.
Gabriel has gotten the opportunity to start so far, but his performance has been up and down. On Wednesday, he joked with the media about how his mom used to beat him and how that was worse than all the hits he took against the Steelers on Sunday. This came months after Gabriel seemingly took a shot at Sanders by saying, “there’s entertainers and there’s competitors.”
#Browns QB Dillon Gabriel was asked what Monday felt like after being hit so many times in Sunday’s game against the Steelers:
“My mom used to beat my ass when I was a kid so I don’t think anything will live up to what my mom did. No, I was just playing around, but I’m good.” 😂 pic.twitter.com/pxcbC8KkGd

This led to a big response from Browns fans, as many took this opportunity to take Shedeur Sanders’ side in the QB battle.
“Now he’s a entertainer,” one fan wrote.
“No wonder they kept interviewing Shedeur. The browns knew Dillon was on his ye flow,” one fan commented.
“Get Shedeur in there,” one fan added.
Other fans simply reacted to Gabriel’s unique statement.
“Dawg what’s with gen Z and these press conferences?” one fan wrote.
“Unprofessional of a starting qb to insinuate his mother abused him,” one fan commented.
“Corniest QB in the league won’t be a starter much longer,” one fan added.
Shedeur Sanders Waits For His Chance to Star Amid Dillon Gabriel’s Struggles
Since the trade of Joe Flacco from Cleveland to Cincinnati, Dillon Gabriel has stepped into the starting role for the Browns. He started the past few games, and while he showed flashes of strong play, he mostly struggled. In his first game, he completed 19 of 33 passes for 190 yards and two TDs. It was a solid first performance. However, in his second game, his completion percentage declined to 55.8% as he completed 29 of 52 passing attempts for 221 yards and no TDs.
Now, Shedeur Sanders is waiting for his starting opportunity. While the coaching staff has been reluctant to give Sanders his chance, they could be forced into it if Gabriel does not improve.
