The Los Angeles Chargers just beat the Philadelphia Eagles as the defending champs continue their late-season slide. With that, that game was also notable because an ESPN sideline reporter, Laura Rutledge, tried chasing down Chargers QB Justin Herbert for an interview. However, it seems like Herbert himself was not in the mood to share his thoughts on his team’s win, and this incident got fans talking.
I’m sorry I thought Justin Herbert was extremely rude to ESPN’s Laura Rutledge.
You know the drill dude, you’re the QB. Big win for the Chargers, gut wrenching loss for the Eagles. pic.twitter.com/BlPrvTfqak

Fans were mainly divided about Rutledge’s actions, with some just pointing out that she was just doing her job. However, others were annoyed by her persistence. On Alec Nolan’s X post, they poured in their thoughts.
“He was trying to celebrate with his team. She’s annoying, chasing him down,” one person stated.
“it’s her job to talk to him with ESPN within that time frame and he’s a professional athlete at the highest level, he should know better,” one fan said.
“He knew she was going to ask pointless questions and she asked pointless questions. “How does it feel to win” “does your broken hand hurt”. Don’t blame him at all,” one Herbert defender noted.
“sorry he wants to celebrate a huge overtime win with his team that they worked hard for rather than doing a interview straight after the game,” tweeted one X user.
“The man just got obliterated all game while dealing with a broken hand. Give him a break,” another Herbert defender added.
“He said “I want to celebrate with my teammates” but he still gave her an interview. Herbert is class, no reason to take shots at him,” another person pointed out.
“100%. He’s always been a d*ck. This wasn’t all that surprising in real time,” commented one critic.
LA Chargers Keep Pressure On Denver Broncos As Philadelphia Eagles’ Slide Continues
After the game, Justin Herbert and the LA Chargers improved to 9-4 in the season. This means that they are in second place in the AFC West, and the win puts some pressure into the division’s leaders, the Denver Broncos, which are 11-2. There are still a few games in the season, which means that the Chargers could still overtake the Broncos.
Meanwhile, the Eagles continue their late-season slide, though they continue to be on top of the NFC East and in third seed for the NFC playoff picture. The Eagles have started strong this season, but have struggled against teams they should have been able to beat on paper.
