The Raiders recently fired offense coordinator Chip Kelly after just 11 games in charge. Kelly was hired as Pete Carroll’s offensive coordinator in February. There have been reports of him repeatedly botching play calls, which has eventually led to dysfunction in the offense.
The 62-year-old reportedly called plays that weren’t part of the plan in the Raiders’ offense. He apparently also forgot to tag a motion call for wide receivers, which confused quarterback Geno Smith at the line of scrimmage multiple times. Las Vegas’ offense struggled mightily with Kelly in charge. They ranked 30th in success rate and last in EPA/play.
Recently, NFL analyst Marcus Johnson called out Chip Kelly. However, former pro Emmanuel Acho disagreed with Johnson’s analysis.
Me and Chip have our differences (he cut me 5 times) but this sounds like a total BS hit job.

Acho took to X and voiced his opinion on Johnson’s post.
“Me and Chip have our differences (he cut me 5 times) but this sounds like a total BS hit job. Coaches call plays from a play sheet, a play sheet that is literally in their hand or on a desk (if they’re in booth),” Acho posted.
“This call sheet has plays separated by specific downs and distances. I find it impossible to believe that Chip was calling uninstalled plays. That’s just not practical,” he concluded.
Fans react to Emmanuel Acho defending Chip Kelly
Fans had had enough of Kelly and did not fully agree with Acho defending the Raiders’ former offense coordinator.
“In your honest opinion, do you think that Pete Carroll may have taken control with the offensive game plans? Maybe Chip didn’t get to execute his. What do you think?” One fan asked.
“Orrrrrrr… he was gambling,” John Vogel commented.
“I don’t agree with u often but this one I do. The question is who’s in on the hit job,” one fan agreed with Acho.
“Yeah I mean it’s not practical but that’s why he was fired lol idk why it’s hard to believe. That’s why nobody knew what to do,” another fan said.
“Impossible to believe is wild and please stop telling us how many times you got cut,” another replied.
