Penn State quarterback Drew Allar could only start six games in his final college football season as he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the game against Northwestern. Two things happened afterwards. The program fired head coach James Franklin and they lost their starting quarterback for the season.
Allar could also not apply for a medical redshirt, so the timing of the injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. He has no choice but to enter the 2026 NFL draft, where he’s expected to be picked on Day 2 or early Day 3 in early projections.
Top 3 Potential Destinations for Penn State QB Drew Allar
1) Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are one of the teams that can draft Drew Allar on Day 2. Since they have lost first-round picks for Sauce Gardner, they are forced to invest in what’s available on Day 2. The Colts quarterback room needs an addition since Anthony Richardson is constantly battling injuries and Daniel Jones is not their long-term answer.
As such, a developmental quarterback like Allar could enter there and learn the tricks of the NFL. It helps that the Colts offensive style fits Allar’s passing game. Moreover, Colts rookie tight end Tyler Warren is already there, who caught passes from Allar last season.
2) Cleveland Browns
The Browns don’t have a stable quarterback room. They tried Joe Flacco, but when things didn’t work, they traded him to the Cincinnati Bengals. Then they tried rookie Dillon Gabriel, who also couldn’t deliver results and once he suffered a concussion, Shedeur Sanders gave a win, but his performances since haven’t been convincing.
With the luxury of having DeShaun Watson available in 2026, the Browns will not likely use their top picks on a quarterback. That means they can wait out and get a steal in Drew Allar on Day 3.
3) New York Jets
The New York Jets have been linked to Drew Allar in multiple projection models as they search for long term quarterback option. The franchise signed Justin Fields to a two-year but his performances are not satisfactory enough. Because of his injury, the team turned to undrafted rookie Brady Cook as their starting quarterback late in the 2025 season. However, Cook, too, has not been able to mold himself into an NFL quarterback.
In this scenario, it could be a nice opportunity for Allar to get a starting role early on. The Jets also won’t mind drafting him as his passing game could benefit their offensive model.
