The Philadelphia Eagles have finally lost their first game of the season last Sunday, and it was against the Denver Broncos, which exposed some of the gaps in Philly’s offense. During an episode of “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith took aim at the Eagles, particularly offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who has been blamed for the team’s offensive woes against Denver.
Smith noted that fans should be concerned for the Eagles, saying that they do not resemble last year’s Super Bowl-winning team and then went on to blast Patullo for his inefficiencies.
“Well, I think we should be concerned simply because they don’t resemble the team that won the Super Bowl. And we’ve got to look at them and see that for what it is and say, “What the hell is going on here?” he said. (3:40)
“You got a new offensive coordinator. Does this man know what he’s doing? Nick Sirianni, is he going to put his foot on the pedal and remind everybody he is the damn head coach of the franchise and he has the power to implement his philosophy, his style, etc.?” he added.
The Eagles blew a 14-point lead late in the game, with their offensive struggles becoming apparent in the second half as the team struggled to get its offense going at Lincoln Financial Field. Philly did try to change things up, however, as QB Jalen Hurts had his passing game going, but other than that, the team struggled to score.
As for Kevin Patullo, the numbers speak for themselves as under his guidance, the Eagles offense ranked in the bottom three of the league in various categories, leading to many to blame the OC for the team’s woes.
Saquon Barkley Revealed It Was Not Kevin Patullo That Drew Up Great Jalen Hurts Play
There was one offensive success for the Eagles against the Broncos, and that was a touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to Saquon Barkley, as Philly finally had their passing game going for a brief period of time. However, that play was not drawn up by OC Kevin Patullo, but by Hurts himself, as Barkley had revealed.
The 47-yard touchdown pass was Barkley’s only touchdown of the game and was the lone highlight for the team during the second quarter, with the team continuing to struggle offensively after that touchdown. The revelation that it was Hurts and not Patullo that drew it up was seen as a failure in the OC’s part, as the plays he drew up failed time and time again.
