It didn’t take long for trade rumors to heat up from the Chicago Bears camp, but a sluggish start has ignited speculations about wide receiver DJ Moore’s future with the team beyond the trade deadline.
Moore signed a four-year, $110 million extension in 2024, the richest contract in Bears history. While he was a top target last season (96 catches, 1,364 yards, 8 TDs), it was not hard to assume that Moore will continue to be prioritized by quarterback Caleb Williams. However, it hasn’t been the case in 2025, as it has been the Rome Odunze show in Chicago under new head coach Ben Johnson.
Odunze has received the bulk of the target in Chicago’s new offense. He has been targeted 35 times, catching 20 receptions for 296 yards and five touchdowns. In comparison, Moore comes third in terms of targets (21) and second in receptions (16). He has caught for 173 yards and one touchdown.
It clearly shows that Moore is not the top receiving option for Williams. Due to the franchise’s poor start, Moore has become a subject of trade rumors, even though he is still under contract through the 2029 season. There’s already some noise over the internet regarding Moore’s potential trade.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Alan Goldsher’s trade idea, the Bears could trade DJ Moore and D’Andre Swift in exchange for the Cleveland Browns veteran tight end David Njoku and a draft pick (2025 second-round pick). This trade idea was floated in January.
DJ Moore Revealed His Special Chat With Ben Johnson
Earlier this year, DJ Moore’s allegedly negative body language earned him a call from coach Ben Johnson. There have been several incidents in the past where the wide receiver has shown visible frustration or responded emotionally on the field.
In June, Moore revealed the conversation he had with the team’s new head coach.
“Just don’t do it. Just keep it inside,” Moore said. “We talked about it later, and just don’t put it on film. Don’t put it on TV. So you guys can’t run with it (laughter). So that’s how it is.”
Johnson himself has acknowledged the importance of body language and how a negative showcase could put the team’s entire campaign in jeopardy.
“Body language is a huge thing,” Johnson said via The Athletic in May. “Demeanor. We don’t want to be a ‘palms-up team’ where we’re questioning everything. No, no, no. To me, that’s a little bit of a sign of weakness. We don’t want to exhibit that from anybody on the team.”
It remains to be seen if Moore remains with the team beyond the trade deadline.
