In the offseason, Deebo Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders. The Commanders acquired the versatile wide receiver in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
Samuel spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers and was named a Pro Bowler and First-Team All-Pro during the 2021 season.
This season, the 29-year-old has had an impact in the Commanders’ receiving game, leading the team in targets, catches, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
What Happened to Deebo Samuel?
Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel, like many NFL players, has been playing through injuries. He has been dealing with a bruised heel for a few weeks and popped up on the injury report this week.
Samuel was held out of team practices on Thursday and Saturday and was a limited participant in Friday’s practice.
Dan Quinn said they’ll “take it into Monday” with Deebo Samuel, who is dealing with a bruised heel.
They have until 4 pm on Monday to upgrade/downgrade players and elevate anyone from the p-squad.

Samuel has also been playing through a knee injury that dates back to last season.
Will Deebo Samuel Play in Week 6?
As of right now, it is unknown whether Deebo Samuel will play tonight against the Chicago Bears. Head coach Dan Quinn said it will be a game-time decision, and a decision may not be made until minutes before kickoff. The Commanders will likely assess how Samuel feels during the pre-game warmup.
Deebo Samuel Fantasy Outlook
Deebo Samuel has proven to be a reliable pass catcher in his seventh season in the NFL. He has 30 receptions for 300 yards and three receiving touchdowns in five games this season. He also has seven carries for 46 yards.
With Terry McLaurin expected to return soon, it will take away from Samuel’s production, but Samuel is still a good WR2 or flex option to start in fantasy. Fantasypros.com projects Samuel to finish as the 19th-33rd best fantasy wide receiver this season.
