During his first season with the Washington Commanders, Deebo Samuel Sr. has shown that he can work very well with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has found Samuel to be one of his favorite targets. During Week 7, however, Samuels had to sit it out against the Dallas Cowboys, a game where the Commanders lost 44-22.
Despite being out in Week 7, Deebo Samuel is leading the Commanders in receiving yards as Week 8 approaches. The team they will be facing will be Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, which means it will not be an easy task. Could Samuel be back in time for this showdown?
What Happened to Deebo Samuel?
Deebo Samuel had actually been playing hurt over the course of several games, and this led to the Commanders opting to rest him up and sat him out against the Cowboys. Reports indicated that he had been playing through a bruised heel during the games he has been hurt.
The team first noticed these issues around Week 5, when the Commanders took on the LA Chargers. He played well, though his mobility was limited because of that bruised heel. He reportedly played through two games with a bruised heel until the team finally decided to have him recover and sit out Week 7.
Is Deebo Samuel Playing Week 8?
For now, the Commanders are optimistic that Samuel could be back against the Chiefs for Week 8. Reports indicated that the team expects him to return to practice this week and possibly be ready to play, as head coach Dan Quinn said during his appearance on SiriusXM’s “Movin’ The Chains” podcast:
“The plan is to have full weeks of practice for them,” said the coach.
For now, the team is just waiting to see if Samuel has healed up his bruised heel enough to make his return against the Chiefs, as his output is sorely needed, given that the wide receiver leads the team with 34 receptions for 315 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Deebo Samuel Fantasy Outlook
Samuel’s injury is not that serious, and the team is very optimistic that he is all rested up and ready to play. This should be a good sign for Fantasy managers, as he can put up monster numbers even when hurt. The Commanders have a very good passing game, and his chemistry with Jayden Daniels proves that.
