“No One Wants to Play for That Poverty Franchise”: Darius Slay’s Uncertain Bills Future Sparks Brutal Fan Responses

The Buffalo Bills claimed Darius Slay off waivers after the veteran cornerback mutually parted ways with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was on a one-year, $10 million deal, but after a rough 10-game stretch, which saw him getting benched despite being healthy, the split was made official.

While the Bills claimed him off waivers on Dec. 3, the veteran cornerback has yet to report to the franchise, as there is no certainty whether he wants to continue playing.

“Slay is honored that a first-class organization like the Bills claimed him, but he is going to take some time away from football right now and decide in the next few days if he wants to keep playing,” Slay’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN.

Fans reacted to this news in different ways while brutally targeting the Bills.

“Lmao no one wants to play for that poverty franchise,” one fan commented.

“He really just wanted to go to Philly 😭😭😭” another added.

“Who can blame him? The bills will never get past the AFC championship,” another fan said.

“LMAO BRO KNOWS JOSH ALLEN WILL NEVER MAKE SB,” one fan wrote.

“Slay’s hesitation makes sense 34 years old 28 career ints and a super bowl lix retirement hint,” one fan added.

“Bro said he’d rather retire than never make it past the AFC championship 😭😭” one fan said.

Darius Slay Admits His Shortcomings In 2025

Darius Slay has struggled this season with the Steelers. In 10 games, including nine starts, he registered 36 tackles (28 solo), 0 interceptions, 3 passes defended (PD), and 1 fumble recovery. According to Steelers Depot, he has allowed 30 of 40 passes to be completed for 337 yards. The same report also claimed that he has missed 16.3% of his tackles.

Slay himself has acknowledged that he hasn’t been his best self this season.

“I ain’t been playing the best. But I’ve been playing decent. But I gotta, on my end, for sure play better,” Slay said. “I know I got a lot left. I’m making some plays, just gotta be way more consistent overall.”

Slay, 34, now needs to decide whether he wants to call it quits on his NFL career.
