Dallas Cowboys Defensive Coordinator Candidates: Top 5 Matt Eberflus Replacements Ft. Jonathan Gannon

The Dallas Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in the league, leading to yet another disappointing season for one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, leading to the firing of Matt Eberflus as defensive coordinator. This has now started the job search for the team, as they seek to recover from this season’s many poor defensive performances. The question now is, who should the team hire to replace him?

5 Defensive Coordinators the Dallas Cowboys Could Go After

    Jonathan Gannon

After being fired as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Gannon is now looking for a job, and it might not be as a head coach. Before being the Cardinals’ head coach, he used to be the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, and a very good one at that. This means that the Cowboys could now get the man who helped their eternal rivals, the Eagles, become defensive powerhouses, as they look for a new DC.

    Jeff Ulbrich

He is the current Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator, and he did help improve the team’s defensive capabilities there. However, with the Falcons having a dismal season, he might want to work somewhere else, and that could be the Cowboys, which might be able to give him a defensive lineup that he wants.

    Raheem Morris

Speaking of the Atlanta Falcons, Morris just got fired as their head coach and is also looking for a job. As a defensive coordinator, he won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, so he does have a lot of experience in that role, and many see him to fit well with the Cowboys coaching staff as he suits their style of play.

    Aden Durde

He used to work with the Dallas Cowboys as the defensive line coach, but soon left to work as the Seattle Seahawks’ defensive coordinator. A return to Dallas could change things for him, and he could be welcomed back by the players with open arms, as he is reportedly well respected there.

    Jim Leonhard

Jim Leonhard is currently working under Vance Joseph, considered one of the best defensive minds in football today and the reason why the Denver Broncos is one of the best defensive teams in the NFL right now. Leonhard currently works for the Denver Broncos as their passing game coordinator, but he could take this to the next level and set up what he has learned under Vance Joseph.
