The Washington Commanders’ struggle continues to get worse this season. With a 4-10 record in the NFC East, they’re eliminated from the playoffs, and now the Jayden Daniels news is adding insult to injury.
The Commanders have decided to shut down the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year for the rest of the season. Daniels has struggled with injuries, starting in only seven games this season.
The decision comes after he re-injured his left elbow against the Vikings in Week 14. With Daniels out of the picture, backup Marcus Mariota is slated to start in the remaining three games for the Commanders.
When the news came out, several fans shared their thoughts on the decision. Many supported it as it protects the quarterback in the long run.
“His mom told Coach something,” a fan wrote.

“This is for the best. Wonder if they can bounce back again next year or if last season was a fluke,” a fan wrote.
“rip jayden’s arm, season’s done, rest up bro,” a fan wrote.
“Finally, a rational decision by this braindead org,” a fan wrote.
“Wow Washington finally does the right thing,” a fan wrote.
“Should’ve never played the last game smh,” a fan wrote.
Daniels first injured his elbow in Week 9. At the time, it was a dislocated left elbow that forced him to sit out multiple games. Shockingly, the franchise decided to bring him back, even when their season was over as far as the playoff chances were concerned.
Then the comeback game against the Vikings put an end to his season. Daniels took a hard fall on his elbow and had to leave the game early. Since then, his return was believed to be impossible.
Dan Quinn on Jayden Daniels Decision
Dan Quinn stated that the decision to rest Daniels for the rest of the season was “part medical, part team.” The league has seen some terrible injuries to key players recently, and the Commanders didn’t want to add their name to the list.
“We’re going to sit him for the final 3 games,” QUINN SAID. “It was part medical, part team…He wants to practice, and he will practice.”

It must’ve been a tough call to make because Daniels has been dubbed as the key to success for the Commanders. His rookie season, widely regarded as the best rookie season by an offensive player ever, was something to marvel at.
He had 3,568 yards with 25 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 891 yards, and six touchdowns on the ground, while completing 69% of his passes. With a 12-5 record, Daniels helped the Commanders make their first playoff appearance since 2020.
