Ahead of their Week 5 showdown against the struggling Miami Dolphins, the Carolina Panthers have decided to not let star running back Chuba Hubbard practice on Wednesday. He had hurt himself earlier this season but was still able to play during Week 4 against the New England Patriots, but he struggled during that game and was playing hurt.
This now raises the question of will be be able to play against the Miami Dolphins this week or is he still hurt and will be play while hurt again?
The star running back struggled against the Patriots as he had a 51% snap share, the lowest of the season so far. He just had 13 touches for 69 yards as he hobbled through that game. New England Dominated Carolina during that game, with the final score of 42-13 as the entire team struggled to get their offense and defense going.
What Happened to Chuba Hubbard?
Ahead of that game against the Patriots, Chuba Hubbard was already hurt, as he had two limited practices due to a calf injury he had suffered ahead of that game. He had been listed questionable ahead of the Week 4 clash, but he ultimately returned and played in that game.
Is Chuba Hubbard Playing Week 5?
It appears the Carolina Panthers will be without their starting running back this week. According to multiple reports, including NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Chuba Hubbard is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins as he continues to deal with a lingering calf injury.
Head coach Dave Canales had previously described the situation as “day to day,” noting that Hubbard’s calf “needs more treatment and more time.” After missing every practice this week, the team has opted for a cautious approach to avoid aggravating the injury further.
With Hubbard sidelined, Rico Dowdle is expected to handle the bulk of the backfield duties in Week 5. There’s still no clear timeline for Hubbard’s return, but the Panthers are hopeful that additional rest will allow him to recover fully ahead of their Week 6 matchup.
Chuba Hubbard Fantasy Outlook
With Hubbard still hurt, it would be best to sit him out, as the running back may be returning during the Panthers’ next game. For now, fans should look to Rico Dowdle and Trevor Etienne as they take up his mantle as he nurses himself back to health.
