Chuba Hubbard Injury: Bryce Young Opens Up On Panthers Star’s Absence Amid Rico Dowdle Resurgence

For two weeks already, the Carolina Panthers have missed their top running back, Chuba Hubbard due to injury. The Panthers missed his presence during their 30-27 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and the question now is that when will he be back in action?

Panthers quarterback Bryce Young addressed Rico Dowdle’s resurgence for Carolina as the former Dallas RB fills in for Hubbard.

“I’m super confident,” Bryce Young said Sunday afternoon after the Cowboys win, of having both guys available. “The great thing is those are two guys that want to win. Chuba is a leader on this team. He’s huge for us. He always will be same. Rico does a great job of doing all the things you’ve seen.

HC Dave Canales also addressed the Hubbard question on Wednesday, before the showdown with the Cowboys, saying that they are evaluating him regularly to see if he could play again. However, he added that their other running backs were also very good.

“Chuba—we’re gonna evaluate him every day, and kinda see where he’s at,” he said. “And then, with he and Rico, what I take from it is—we have two good backs. We’ll have to figure that part out. That’s a good problem to have, but it’s something that we have to work through.”

    What Happened to Chuba Hubbard?

Ahead of the Panthers’ Week 5 victory over the Miami Dolphins, Chuba Hubbard suffered a calf strain, causing him to miss that game. He has since missed several practices and games, including that big win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Hubbard has since gotten some treatment but his calf had since deteriorated, causing him to miss several games and practices. Canales has noted that his calf needs more time to heal but there had been some signs that he has been improving over the last few days.

Is Chuba Hubbard Playing This Week?

While he did not play for that game against the Cowboys, it may take some more time for Chuba Hubbard to return. That being said, there is still no indication that he would be returning for Week 7 yet, though the team has been monitoring his situation constantly.

With Hubbard missing action and his backup, Rico Dowdle, getting in some solid numbers as the Panthers become one of the biggest surprises of the season, there have been talks of the team trading the injured running back or even benching him in favor of the rising Dowdle.

    Chuba Hubbard Fantasy Outlook

Rico Dowdle is continuing to perform beyond the expectations of many for the Carolina Panthers. This now raises the question of what might happen should Hubbard return, and how would this affect Fantasy managers? For now, it should be safe to keep playing Dowdle as he continues to perform well, while also sitting Hubbard, though it would still be wise to wait and see if he would return sooner than expected.
