Wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are scheduled to play the New England Patriots on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. While the Buccaneers have played well this season, it has mostly been without Godwin, who has only appeared in two games because of injuries.
What Happened to Chris Godwin?
Chris Godwin appeared in two games this season, most recently playing the full game against Seattle on Oct. 5. However, he injured the fibula in his leg, which he suffered an ankle dislocation last season. He has been out ever since. There had been hope that after the team’s bye last week, Godwin would be able to return. However, that is now in doubt.
Is Chris Godwin Playing This Week?
While there was hope that Chris Godwin would return this week, it is not clear if that will be the case. On Wednesday, insider Adam Schefter reported that Godwin missed practice.
“Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving and WR Chris Godwin were not spotted at practice today, raising questions about the availability of both for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.”

If Godwin is unable to practice this week, he is unlikely to play on Sunday.
When Will Chris Godwin Return?
There seems to be hope that Godwin could return soon. However, an exact timeline has not been given. The door has not shut on his returning for Sunday’s game, but he will likely need to practice on Thursday or Friday for that to be a possibility.
Chris Godwin Fantasy Outlook
When healthy, Chris Godwin can be a decent wide receiver option if you need a player off the waiver wire. However, it is unlikely he returns to the form he showed a few seasons ago. He has suffered leg injuries in each of the past two seasons, and as a result, it would not be surprising if his speed and agility are impacted. So, with the uncertainty around his return, he might not be worth keeping on your roster any longer.
Fantasy Replacements For Chris Godwin
If you need a replacement for Chris Godwin, there should be a few solid options on your waiver wire. Alec Pierce on the Colts is a solid option who could be available in a lot of leagues. We are also fans of Tre Tucker on the Raiders if he is available. Alternatively, you could pick up Godwin’s teammate, Tez Johnson.
