After an injury-riddled season in 2024, the 2025 season is turning out to me more or less the same for Chris Godwin Jr., as he has now missed several games since getting injured shortly after returning from a previous injury. To make matters worse for Tampa Bay, the wide receiver is not the only one injured, as star running back Bucky Irving is also hurt, as well as many other Bucs players.
The Bucs are currently on their bye week break for Week 9, and it could not have come at a better time, as it gives the many injured Tampa Bay players even more time to heal up and rest so they could return as soon as possible. The question now is, will Chris Godwin Jr. be healthy enough to come back by Week 10 when the Bucs return from their one-week break?
What Happened to Chris Godwin Jr.?
In October 2024, Godwin dislocated his ankle and was out for the rest of the season, returning in Week 4. He has seemingly recovered from that injury, only to get a different injury in Week 5, just one week after returning. He reportedly suffered a fibula injury.
Unlike his season-ending 2024 injury, however, head coach Todd Bowles stated that his fibula injury was not season ending and that the team has “no concerns” regarding his availability. However, Godwin has already missed three games, and there is still no clear word regarding his status from the Bucs staff.
When Will Chris Godwin Jr. Be Back?
So far, the Buccaneers have not given much update regarding Godwin’s status, with Bowles only confirming that it was not as serious as the last time. The team has not also given a clear target date for his return, as is injured running back Bucky Irving, with many questioning if they would even return to play this season, especially as neither of them have been placed in the injured reserve.
Fans have slammed the lack of transparency with Irving, who has been out for more than a month now. The same may also happen with Godwin should he miss a fourth straight game. That being said, the team has been looking optimistic with Godwin, as he was not placed in the injured reserve, which gives him the ability to return any time. As for Week 10, it is still unclear if he would be healthy enough to play.
Chris Godwin Jr. Fantasy Outlook
As for his Fantasy outlook, managers should just wait and see before dropping him, though having him sit out might also be a good idea, though there is a possibility that he may be out longer than expected. For now, managers need to be patient, especially with the Bucs suffering from an injury crisis.
As for his replacements, managers should consider picking up Sterling Shepard and Tez Johnson, who have stepped up so far for the Buccaneers in his absence, given that the Bucs are still considered one of the best teams in the NFL despite having a ton of players injured.
