Insider Urges Chip Kelly To Jump Back To College Football As Raiders Stint Comes To Abrupt End

Chip Kelly’s NFL stint as the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive coordinator came crashing down as the Raiders officially relieved him of his duties. Head coach Pete Carroll made the announcement following a dismal 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday that dropped the Raiders to an abysmal 2-9 record.

Meanwhile, college football insider Josh Pate responded to Kelly’s dismissal. He recently took to X with a heartfelt message for the former Oregon head coach. Pate shared a photo of Kelly on X, urging him to return to college football. He captioned his post, writing,

“You belong with us. Come home.”

The Week 12 loss to the Browns saw the Raiders struggle offensively, with quarterback Geno Smith getting sacked 10 times in the game. The Raiders’ record under Kelly saw them ranking third-last last week in the league in scoring, with the Las Vegas-based franchise now sitting on a five-game losing streak.

Kelly had returned to the NFL this season after winning the College Football Playoff national championship as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.

His first NFL stint came with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, helping the Eagles win 10 games in his first year.

Josh Pate’s Call For Kelly’s Comeback Backed By Stellar CFB Achievements

Josh Pate’s call to get Chip Kelly back to college football’s scheme of things makes a lot of sense, keeping in mind Kelly’s achievements with different programs.

A college football coaching stalwart, at Oregon from 2009 to 2012, Kelly posted an incredible 46-7 record during his tenure, dominating the Pac-10 with a 33-3 conference record. He also guided Oregon to conference championships and four BCS bowl appearances, including the BCS National Championship Game back in 2011.

Kelly was also a recipient of the Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors in 2009, along with the Associated Press Coach of the Year, Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, and Walter Camp Coach of the Year awards.

Even in his most recent college stint as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator in 2024, Kelly helped the Buckeyes rank near the top in both yards and touchdowns per game.

His stint with UCLA back in 2023 guided the program to an eight-win season and a bowl victory in 2023.
