“Chiefs Dynasty Is Over”: Fans React As Insider Reveals Kansas City’s Potential Plans Amid Patrick Mahomes’ ACL Injury

Patrick Mahomes’ run of winning the AFC West every year since he joined it is over after he tore the ACL in his left knee in December. The Kansas City Chiefs will finish under .500 for the first time since Andy Reid joined the team in 2013. It will be only the second time the head coach has missed the playoffs since joining the team.

After a dominant run and a new reality in 2025, the franchise is in need of an update to many. However, Kansas City appears to agree, according to Ian Rapoport via JPA in a Sunday post.

“The Chiefs are expected to make major changes to their roster this offseason after a disappointing 2025 campaign,” JPA reported, citing Rapoport.

Fans reacted to the report, jumping to many wild conclusions.

“the chiefs dynasty is over,” one fan declared.

“Dynasty is finally over,” another predicted.

“Travis is retiring, restructure Mahomes,” one fan predicted.

More fans posted their responses, with some raising questions and others mentioning the quarterback and head coach.

“With what money?? Going to have to do some cap magic in the off season,” another questioned
    “Bye bye Mahomes,” one hoped.
“What exactly does that mean if they’re keeping the head [coach]?” one questioned.
The Chiefs face the two-win Las Vegas Raiders in Las Vegas to conclude the Week 18 slate. It will be the last chance to change the team’s draft stock or otherwise solidify itself inside the top ten.

Exploring Potential Needs For Patrick Mahomes’ Team In 2026

The team has been in transition for years, dating back to the loss of Tyreek Hill. After moving on from The Cheetah, the team tried a series of receivers, but none have been able to quite fill the void.
The Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco duo is another potential area in need of improvement, with both Pacheco and Hunt failing to earn 4.0 yards per carry in 2025, barring a Week 18 explosion.
Other potential needs could include tight end, whether Travis Kelce retires or not. One stretch goal could be to find a quarterback to cover for Patrick Mahomes if he isn’t available for Week 1.
Additionally, Chris Jones’ future is unclear, leaving at least a small need to add to the pass rush room. Even if Jones returns, he isn’t getting any younger. Will general manager Brett Veach have a good enough draft to fill some of these needs?
